Ficus 'Natasja' is a charming and popular cultivar of the Ficus benjamina, commonly known as the Weeping Fig. This Ficus variety is appreciated for its compact growth habit, elegant drooping branches, and lush, glossy green foliage. It makes a graceful and attractive addition to homes and offices. It belongs to the Moraceae family.

The genus name Ficus is the Latin word for fig. 'Natasja' is a cultivar name, likely chosen for its pleasing sound or perhaps a connection to the breeder who developed it.

Light: Ficus 'Natasja' thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct morning sun, but intense afternoon sun can scorch the leaves. A spot near a sunny window, but not directly in the path of harsh sunlight, is ideal.

Water: Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly when you do water, ensuring any excess drains away. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while allowing the plant to dry out too much can cause leaf drop.

Potting mix: A well-draining potting mix is essential. A standard houseplant potting mix amended with perlite or orchid bark to improve drainage is a good choice.

Fertilising: Feed your Ficus 'Natasja' with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or stop fertilising during the autumn and winter months.

Temperature: Ficus 'Natasja' prefers typical room temperatures. It is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from cold temperatures and draughts. Avoid placing it near air conditioners, heaters, or frequently opened doors.

Humidity: While it can tolerate average household humidity, it appreciates slightly higher levels. Using a humidity tray or grouping plants together can be beneficial.

Pruning: Regular pruning can help maintain the desired shape and size. This Ficus can be pruned to encourage bushier growth or to maintain a more tree-like form.

Toxicity: The sap of Ficus plants can be irritating to the skin and eyes. It's best to keep it away from pets and small children.
