Hedera helix 'Wonder', commonly known as 'Wonder' ivy, is a charming and versatile evergreen climber, valued for its small, star-shaped leaves and compact growth. This Hedera cultivar features deeply lobed, green foliage with intricate patterns of cream, yellow, or pale green variegation. Its neat size and decorative appearance make it a popular choice for ground cover, hanging baskets, and as a low-maintenance houseplant in the UK. It is a member of the Araliaceae family.

The genus name Hedera is the classical Latin name for ivy. Helix means "spiral," referring to its climbing or twining growth habit. 'Wonder' is a cultivar name, possibly chosen for its attractive foliage or growth habit.

Light: Hedera helix 'Wonder' thrives in partial shade to full shade. While it can tolerate some sun, especially in cooler UK climates, strong, direct sunlight can scorch its leaves and cause the variegation to fade. A position near a window with filtered light indoors, or a shaded spot in a UK garden, is ideal.

Water: Water regularly, especially during dry periods and the first year after planting. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant. Ensure good drainage.

Soil: It prefers well-drained, fertile soil that is rich in organic matter. It can tolerate a range of soil types.

Fertilising: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every two to four weeks during the active growing period in spring and summer. Reduce or stop fertilising during the autumn and winter months.

Temperature: Hedera helix 'Wonder' is very hardy and can tolerate the UK climate. It is not tolerant of extreme heat, but it can withstand cold temperatures and frost. Indoors, it prefers cooler temperatures and can be sensitive to central heating.

Humidity: Hedera helix 'Wonder' tolerates average household humidity levels. However, it can benefit from a slight increase in humidity in drier indoor environments, especially during winter with central heating.

Growth Habit: This plant has a vining or climbing growth habit. It can be used as a ground cover, allowed to trail from a container, or trained to climb a support. Regular pruning can help maintain a tidy shape.

Toxicity: Like other Hedera species, 'Wonder' ivy is toxic if consumed by humans or pets.
