Medinilla 'Flamenco' is a stunning and exotic-looking epiphytic shrub prized for its vibrant, pendulous flower clusters. This cultivar of Medinilla is a hybrid, likely resulting from a cross between Medinilla magnifica and another Medinilla species. It features large, dark green, prominently veined leaves and produces showy, bright pink flower panicles that resemble clusters of grapes. The long-lasting blooms and attractive foliage make it a captivating addition to a warm, humid environment, such as a greenhouse or conservatory. It belongs to the Melastomataceae family.

Origin: Medinilla 'Flamenco' is a hybrid cultivar, likely developed in Southeast Asia.

Light: Medinilla 'Flamenco' thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may inhibit flowering. A spot near a window with filtered light, or a room with ample ambient light, is ideal.

Water: Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly when you do water, ensuring any excess drains away. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while allowing the plant to dry out too much can cause leaf drop and bud drop.

Potting mix: A well-draining, slightly acidic potting mix is essential. A blend of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark is a good choice.

Fertilising: Feed your Medinilla 'Flamenco' with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or stop fertilising during the autumn and winter months.

Temperature: Medinilla 'Flamenco' prefers warm temperatures, ideally between 18-24°C (65-75°F). It is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from cold temperatures and draughts.

Humidity: This tropical plant appreciates higher humidity. Using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water can be very helpful. Low humidity can lead to leaf drop and bud drop.

Flowering: Medinilla 'Flamenco' typically blooms in the spring and summer. Providing the right light, temperature, and humidity conditions will encourage flowering. After flowering, prune back the spent flower stalks to encourage new growth.

Toxicity: Medinilla 'Flamenco' is not known to be toxic to humans or pets.
