Narcissus is part of the Amaryllidaceae  family and its native range is Macaronesia to Afghanistan, SE. China to Japan. It is a bulbous perennial growing up to 20cm in height, leaves are narrow and bright green, flowers are bright yellow, with slightly reflexed perianth segments and an orange trumpet.

Genus name possibly comes from the Greek narkē menaning ‘numbness’ because of the sedative effect of the alkaloids in the plant.

Pot: ø 12cm.

Height: Approximately 15cm from base of pot.

Light: Full sun - partial shade.

Water: Prefers a moist, well-draining mix.

Potting mix: Narcissus tolerate most soils but prefer a moderately fertile, well-draining mix that is constantly moist during the growing season.

Fertilising: Feed well-established plant in early spring to encourage new spring growth. Newly planted bulbs should be fertilised at planting in autumn.

Temperature: Bulbs below ground are tolerant to freezes but buds and leaves will not handle subzero temperatures.

Pruning: Deadhead as flowers fade and allow the leaves to die down naturally

Narcissus are toxic, keep out of reach of pets and children.
