Peperomia 'Pixie' is a charming and petite houseplant, valued for its compact size and attractive, heart-shaped green leaves. This Peperomia cultivar typically features small, often slightly succulent leaves that form a dense, bushy mound, creating a delightful miniature effect. Its manageable size and easy care make it a popular choice for terrariums, small pots on desks, or shelves in UK homes. It is a member of the Piperaceae family.

The genus name Peperomia comes from Greek words, indicating its resemblance to the pepper plant (Piper). 'Pixie' is a cultivar name, vividly describing the plant's small and delicate appearance.

Light: Peperomia 'Pixie' thrives in bright, indirect light. Strong, direct sunlight can damage its leaves, while insufficient light may result in leggy growth and duller leaf colour. A spot near a bright window with filtered light in a typical UK home is ideal.

Water: Water moderately, allowing the upper inch or two of the potting mix to dry out completely between waterings. These plants are succulents and store water in their leaves, so overwatering is a common problem and can lead to rot. Reduce watering significantly in autumn and winter.

Soil: A well-draining, airy potting mix is essential. A blend suitable for succulents or a standard houseplant mix amended with extra perlite or orchid bark will provide the necessary drainage.

Fertilising: Use a diluted liquid fertiliser every three to four weeks during the active growing period in spring and summer. Reduce or stop fertilising during the cooler, less active months.

Temperature: This plant prefers warm temperatures, ideally between 18°C and 24°C (65°F and 75°F). It should be protected from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C (50°F), which can occur indoors, particularly during colder UK months.

Humidity: Peperomia 'Pixie' tolerates average household humidity levels found in the UK. It does not typically require high humidity.

Growth Habit: It has a compact, bushy, and somewhat upright growth habit, forming a neat clump of foliage. It generally remains a small, tabletop plant.

Toxicity: Peperomia 'Pixie' is generally considered non-toxic to humans and pets. However, it is always a good practice to prevent ingestion.
