Philodendron hederaceum var. hederaceum and Philodendron scandens 'Micans' are stunning members of the Araceae family, native to Central and South America. These vining plants showcase cordate, velvety leaves that can become leggy but respond well to pruning, making them perfect for trailing displays.

The genus name, derived from the Greek ‘philo’ (loving) and ‘dendro’ (tree), reflects their natural affinity for climbing. The specific epithet ‘hederaceus’ is Latin for made of ivy, highlighting their lush, vine-like growth habit.

Light: These plants thrive in bright, indirect light, ideally receiving 0-4 hours of filtered sunlight per day. Ensure they have a view of the sky to promote healthy growth. Lower light levels may result in larger internodal spacing.

Water: Allow the top 2-3 inches of the potting mix to dry out before watering. Pour water slowly over the top and ensure it drains well through the drainage holes.

Potting mix: Use a well-draining mix composed of coco coir, perlite or vermiculite, orchid bark, and worm castings for optimal growth.

Fertilising: Feed every other watering during the growing season or when active growth is observed. Dilute fertiliser to half the recommended amount, never exceeding it.

Temperature: Maintain a temperature range of 21-27°C, ensuring it does not drop below 15°C.

Humidity: While these Philodendron prefer higher humidity, they adapt well to average home conditions. Increase humidity by placing the plant on a watered pebble tray or using a humidifier.

Note: Philodendron are toxic; keep them out of reach of pets and children.
