Sansevieria cylindrica, also known as the cylindrical snake plant, African spear, or spear sansevieria, is a striking succulent prized for its unique, cylindrical leaves. This Sansevieria species features stiff, upright, spear-like leaves that are typically dark green with subtle banding and a smooth, almost waxy texture. It's a popular choice for modern interiors and is well-suited for those seeking low-maintenance houseplants. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family.

The genus name Sansevieria honors Prince Raimondo di Sangro of San Severo, an Italian nobleman. Cylindrica refers to the cylindrical shape of the leaves.

Light: Sansevieria cylindrica is remarkably tolerant of a wide range of light conditions, from low light to bright, indirect light. It can even tolerate some direct sun, although it's best to avoid prolonged exposure, especially in hot climates.

Water: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Sansevieria cylindrica is a succulent and can store water in its leaves, so overwatering is a common problem and can lead to root rot. Water thoroughly when you do water, and then allow the pot to drain completely. In the winter, you may only need to water every few weeks or even less frequently.

Potting mix: A well-draining potting mix is essential. A cactus or succulent mix is ideal. Avoid regular potting soil, as it retains too much moisture.

Fertilising: Sansevieria cylindrica is not a heavy feeder. Fertilise sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser. Avoid fertilising during the autumn and winter.

Temperature: Sansevieria cylindrica prefers typical room temperatures. It is not frost-tolerant.

Humidity: Sansevieria cylindrica tolerates a wide range of humidity levels. It does not require any special humidity considerations.

Growth Habit: Sansevieria cylindrica is a slow-growing plant that forms a clump of upright, cylindrical leaves.

Toxicity: Sansevieria cylindrica is mildly toxic if ingested, potentially causing nausea and vomiting. Keep away from pets and small children.
